Michael Summers – Lead Vocals

A relative new comer to the music world, Michael Summer is the perfect front man for Fattie Roots.  An artist at heart, Summers started developing his vocal talents as a amusing pastime and was surprised when he was singled out for his outstanding ability. Discovered by Americo Carasco, the band’s keyboardist while he was singing karaoke, Summers has been performing with the group and entertaining audiences for two years now.

Prior to joining Fattie Roots, Summers spent his time traveling the world as a working artist with his base in New York City.  A preeminent oil painter, Summers had his works displayed in multiple venues in and around Manhattan, and in many other countries.  He now applies his artistic vision to his new found calling as vocalist for Fattie Roots. Summers studied fine arts at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut for four years where he received his BS.

Americo Carasco is the keyboardist for Fattie Roots, and also plays as one half of the duo The Other People.  When he is not performing, Carasco gives private piano lessons, and lives in New Milford, Connecticut, with his wife and son.

Mostly self-taught as a performer, Carasco decided in his mid-20s to study music theory and enrolled in the Mannes College of Music.  He earned a diploma in jazz piano, and became the subject of the short documentary film Always a Pleasure about his life in music, as well as a two-minute movie Requiem for Piano.  Previously, Carasco was a founder of the River Rats, and sat in many times with the Workdogs, an improvisational rock band, at various East Village bars. He has played in many bands, and in addition to jazz and reggae, is proficient in many other types of music including rock, metal, and punk.  Versatile and well-studied, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Sun Ra, and Frank Zappa are among Carasco’s major influences.  A native of Hoboken, New Jersey, Carasco started playing piano as a child and joined his first rock band at the age of eleven.
